Greetings from the President
The County Roscommon Society of New York, Inc. brings together people with Roscommon heritage. The Society was organized July 16, 1931 and led by its first President Andrew Trimble. Today our organization is strong and active as we continue to promote and foster our Irish culture and traditions in the New York and surrounding areas. Our organization also provides our members with an opportunity to keep in touch with old friends as well as keeping current on events in County Roscommon.

Dear Members and Friends,
We regret to inform you of the sudden passing of Richard M. Birch at his home on March 15, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Eileen Cryan Birch and devoted father of Richard J. Birch.
We also regret to inform you of the passing of John P. Rafferty, (Athleague) New Hyde Park, on February 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife Bernadette. Cherished father of Kerry, Katie & Michael.
Please remember in your prayers the members and families of the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Team 116 whose helicopter crashed off Blacksod Bay in County Mayo.
May their souls rest in peace.
We had a wonderful dinner dance on March 5. Thank you to all the committee who helped make it a success. A special thanks to our two honorees Michael Corcoran, Jr. and Sean McNeill. You both made the night so special and we were proud to have you, your family and friends present. Thank you everybody who took out journal ads. Your support is very much appreciated. Thanks also to Kevin O’Connor for playing the bagpipes and to Ciara McGinty for singing the National Anthems.
The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade went off without a hitch. Thanks to all who carried our flags and banner and to the group that joined us in the march. You guys are the ones that made the day for us. Without you we couldn’t have participated. Your help is appreciated more than you can imagine. How many counties can say they had two Colonel’s carrying their flags? We can. We had Colonel Michael A. Lyons of the New Jersey Army National Guard and Colonel Dennis Clancey of the U. S. Marines. “Always Ready, Always There” agus Semper Fidelis.
Congratulations to our own Hilary Beirne who continues to receive well deserved awards. Hilary has been made an Honorary member of the Fighting 69th Infantry Regiment. I understand he’s adjusting well in Boot Camp.
“The Thomas J. Manton Irish Person of The Year Award” was presented to Hilary by New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito at City Hall on March 23, 2017. Congratulations Hilary and thank you for all you do.
Our immediate Past President and Director Kevin O’Connor was featured on a live TV broadcast playing the bagpipes from the Shannon Rose Irish Pub, in Clifton, NJ on News 12 New Jersey on St. Patrick’s morning. Great job Kevin.
Kevin is a member of the South Park & District Pipe Bank who performed at the “Voices of the People” Inaugural Concert in Washington, DC on January 19, 2017. Well done Kevin.
Congratulations to Colin McKenna who was a winner in the UICANY Essay Contest. Colin is the grandson of Michael & Eileen Lyons. Mike is Past President of the Roscommon Society.
